Selahattin Paşalı and Ece Çeşmioğlu Ölmez portray a couple in the early stages of their relationship, living a seemingly ordinary life in an apartment building on one of the familiar streets of Istanbul. Their daily routine includes shopping after work and talking to their families on the phone. Despite being in the early stages of their relationship, Rahmi and Ecem have a toxic dynamic filled with negativity and jealousy. As the story unfolds, Rahmi finds himself in a wild and unexpected situation driven by Ecem’s provocations.
Throughout the film, the reinforced symbolism falls into place like a puzzle, reaching its climax of tension as Rahmi confronts Ecem with the question, “Ecem, do you love me?” Rahmi, who initially refuses to slaughter sacrificial meat, becomes a person driven to violence under the pressure of external influences; he becomes a victim of fragile masculinity, molded by society’s expectations and his own insecurities.
However, is Rahmi the only victim? In this story where everyone has their flaws, Ecem, Kazım, and even the characters we meet at the end, the police officer, and Rukiye, are all victims. Selfish decisions, drawing lessons from others’ experiences, inferiority complexes… When all these concepts come together, Soner Caner juxtaposes the ordinary characters in our accustomed lives.
Thus, the film not only presents the reality of the country with a close perspective, masterfully shot in a single sequence, full of realism and tension, but it also touches upon a political stance. Taking inspiration from “The Resistance,” the playlist we prepared captures the true nature of humanity, its madness, and the melodies tainted with insecurities. Surrender yourself to the music and immerse in the world of the human psyche.
