Bad Influence: ‘The Idol’

The most anticipated series of this year; HBO’s ‘The Idol’, premiered at Cannes Film Festival. Starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, highly controversial ‘The Idol’ is set to air on June 4th.

The Idol, which premiered during Cannes Film Festival, continues to raise expectations with the mixed reviews. The series, which focuses on sexuality, cults, drugs and complex relationships, divided the critics into two. While Lily-Rose Depp was praised for her brave scenes and acting in the series, which has a current score of 27% in Rotten Tomatoes, the media reports about director Sam Levinson seem to be rather complicated.

While the production process was still going on, the news that Levinson took the director’s chair for the series and changed the whole script and re-shooted many scenes, costing HBO millions. Sam Levinson was also criticized for completely changing the original script and moving away from the emphasis on the exploitative aspects of popular culture and fame. Despite all this, there is still a lot waiting for ‘The Idol’ with its daring subject and rich visual world. It is inevitable that the audience from Sam Levinson’s Euphoria will eagerly await his next work.

The six-episode series, which will premiere on June 4th, is about the turbulent journey to fame of young pop singer Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), who crosses paths with a cult leader (The Weeknd) after losing her mother.
