In its Autumn RTW’24 collection, Chanel puts together the principles that have been the foundation of the fashion house since 1920, in an androgynous theme, among wool layers.
We are faced with a cinematic presentation from the eyes of Virginie Viard. Models start walking on planches around a giant panoramic screen. In the background we see the vastness of Deauville’s landscape, with romantic silhouettes, straw hat details and the origins of the fashion house. A warm collection awaits us, full of soft materials lined up deep in layers.
The collection takes the femininity of Gabrielle Chanel’s own wardrobe and the masculinity of the harsh winter breezes of the coastline to its core. While wide-shouldered, thick and soft fabrics create a sharp shape, Karl Lagerfeld inspired patterns add character to knitted pieces.
The most noticeable texture is definitely wool, tweed in fact. The noble feeling of two-piece suits is complemented by silk shirts that almost flow into the wool. The unique appearance of the house is as elegant as ever…
We love the relationship between old and new, and there are factors that add an authentic texture to this collection. Accessories complete the looks in pastel tones, oversized silhouettes or exactly as the shapes we expect them to be. Iconic bags, colorful silk scarves, tall suede and leather boots take a nod to Anouk Amiée’s “A Man and a Woman” character. From start to finish, we are reminded why Chanel is an iconic house.
