An Exhibition that Reflects on Fashion
This exhibition spells fashion with a lower-case “f.”
Displayed at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the exhibition fashion after Fashion paves the way for a new era in fashion. Open until August 6, the exhibition displays works of designers who reflect on fashion and give rise to thought in others.
Curated by Ilari Laamanen and Hazel Clark, the exhibition differentiates fashion from Fashion. The exhibition believes that unlike “Fashion” which is shaped by commercial interest and market dynamics, “fashion” represents a more thoughtful understanding that prioritizes the creative process. Comprising venue-specific installations by Lucy Jones, Eckhaus Latta, Alexa Karolinski, Henrik Vibskov, Ryohei Kawanishi, SSAW and ensæmble, the exhibition awaits visitors who wish to broaden their minds in fields of contemporary fashion, design and art.
Incidentally, Vetements, one of the brands that adopt the lower-case fashion approach, announced that it will not be presenting its new collections with fashion shows. We’re curious as to what kind of reflections Vetements’s out-of-the-book strategy will have in the fashion world in the future.
